Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Pranayama & Meditation
Yoga is a 5,000 year old Indian philosophy, a mind and body practice that combines physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation.
The word "yoga" means "union and control". Yoga is the union of man with the universal reality, the fusion of the part with the wholeness, of the perishable with the eternal, of the mind with the deepest core of our Self. At the same time, yoga is control, that is to say self-discipline. That's why the main aim of yoga is to move the inner resources to achieve the person's integration. For that, several practices are used: breathing, meditation, relaxation, asanas.
The first time this philosophy of life was mentioned is circa 2500 BCE in the Vedas. Later, yoga appeared in other sacred books as the Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita. In 2nd century BCE Patanjali systematized all these knowledge and shaped it. Yoga arrived in the western world thanks to Swami Vivekananda, who in 1893 introduced the practice of this ancient discipline in USA.
